The violence broke out as darkness fell in Seattle following a day of May Day rallies in cities across the U.S. West that were planned by a coalition of organized labor activists, students, civil rights advocates and members of the clergy to call for an overhaul of immigration laws.

Riots are occuring the world over - political, ethnic, economic, religious. It indicates a breakdown in the basic fabric of society. The riots began in Greece, but have spread throughout Europe. The riots in Greece revolve around the austerity programs that the Greek government has been forced to implement because of its overspending and consequent debt crisis
